From the moment campers arrive at Camp Harvest activities begin which build memories for a lifetime. Campers build relationships with peers, adults and Jesus Christ. An atmosphere of worship is evident. Not only are memories built, but important life skills are presented and developed through activities, initiatives and scenarios. Summer camps are days full of adventure and learning in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas.
Services are held every morning and night to give campers the opportunity to have an encounter with God. Each service begins with worship and a message follows. The message could be a teaching, sermon, testimony or personal story.
The campers are involved in physically, emotionally, and intellectually challenging problem solving scenarios and activities designed to take the participants out of their comfort zones. After each activity, the campers have the opportunity to express what they experienced. Then the spiritual truths are pointed out and discussed. Some of the many life skills they are exposed to are communication, teamwork (without competition), trust, problem solving, and decision making.
Using our local Emergency Medical System and Fire Department, campers are presented with classroom instruction on how to help during a crisis, whether it be a natural or man-made disaster. Disasters leave people in one of two positions--either as a victim or one who helps victims. Camp Harvest trains young adults to take the lead and provide the necessary help. Imaginary situations, or scenarios, are presented to the campers. They must draw upon the previously given classroom instruction, their prior knowledge, and other members of their team. The skills of problem solving, decision making, communication, teamwork, and trust are utilized to work through the scenarios. The scenarios are often filmed and reviewed by the group; strengths and weaknesses are pointed out and discussed. The goal is to take campers from teaching to training.
